This website is a collection of a few of my favorite books. They're here because I want them to be borrowed and read and talked about. As such, they are available for checkout. I live in Portland, Ore. and have email, so we can make it work from there.

This is my favorite book ever. It's about a child genius, Gould, and his thirty-something governess, Shatzy Shell. It's a Western and a boxing movie. It's hilarious, deeply sad and desperate.

  • The Victorian Internet

    Tom Standage

The premise of this book, as summarized by Wikipedia, is that the internet began in the mid 19th century with the invention of the telegraph. Think about what it would have been like to have a live conversation with someone thousands of miles away and you get the idea.
